Vacations are for photos !

Bates MotelLike any good hard-core photographer, I bring my camera on vacation. In fact, it’s almost like a part of my body! It would be inconceivable to travel without my camera.

This summer, I visited Abitibi, a region that I know quite a bit… On road 117, there are several towns, villages and cities. One of these places is practically at the entrance of the park De La Verendry. It’s named Lytton. Since it took more than 4 hours to cross the park (it was a gravel road), there were motels nearby. Obviously with the ever-growing competition, some did not survive. During my visits to Abitibi, I noticed this abandoned motel. At each pass I thought that I should stop and take a look. This year was the turning point: I HAD to make that stop and take my pictures!

I spent about 1/2 hour walking around the abandoned places. Given that there were no occupants, many misdeeds took place. This gave gloomy look to the site. At the end of the field, I watched the motel and I felt like in a horror movie by Alfred Hitchcock: the famous Bates Motel from Psycho. The emotion was supported by the cloudy/rainy day. This is how this image was born. I have completed the look in post-treatment.

Wide-angle 10mm, f / 4, ISO 200, 1/1600, focus on the sign “Motel” to have a bit blurred background.
