That time when I forgot…

In January 2017, it had been a few weeks that I had not made a photo run and I missed it a lot. That Sunday I picked up my bag and tripod and went on an expedition. Fortunately, the conditions seemed excellent for a beautiful sunset.

I drove south and ended up in Philipsburg. The weather was nice and there was a lot of activities on the ice in this area. I was dressed warmly!

Around 17:00 to 17:30, the beautiful colors began to appear in the sky. Knowing that I was going to spend a good bit of time outside, I brought my camera bag in order to leave my lenses on my return; It is an important thing not to cause condensation inside the lens. Indeed, when returning from an outdoor walk in winter, it is important to leave the lenses in the bag and not open it for an hour or two. That way, the lenses will not suffer a temperature shock.

When the colors in the sky appeared, the excitement rose and I knew that I would have a beautiful sunset. Backpack harnessed, tripod in hand, camera out, I started to take pictures on the edge of the frozen lake. Since my bag was a bit cumbersome, I put it on a rock so as not to leave it in the snow.

I was on a photo spree: the colors changed as the minutes went by. Unhappy with my composition I had from the shore of the lake, I looked up and noticed this fishing hut at large; It was about 500 meters from my position. I thought that would be interesting. I had my two cameras mounted with two different lenses (wide angle and small zoom). As I was afraid to miss my images, I walked quickly, and then ran to the fishing hut (while being careful not to fall on the ice).

It was about 5:55 pm when I finalized my expedition. I had beautiful pictures and I was glad to have had such a beautiful sunset. I even tried a picture while lying on the ice to take this ice cube. I named it “my precious”!

I went quietly back to the shore of the lake and I thought that I would surely have nice pictures to watch on my computer; But first of all I had be patient and let my cameras and lenses acclimatize to room temperature by leaving everything in my bag … MY BAG !!! Damn it, I had forgotten it on the rock by the lake … Shit, shit, shit: In addition I had a lens inside … I started to run faster and faster until I was able to see the edge of the lake: my bag was still on the rock! Phew! How lucky, my giddiness had almost cost me…

Now, looking at these pictures, I will remember that time when I forgot my bag by the edge of the lake

By the way, this last photo is part of the outdoor exhibition of the photo club Capteurs d’images.
