Digging a sunset

creuser un couché de soleil - digging a sunset

creuser un couché de soleil - digging a sunsetIt’s the end of June, the sky is clear with a few scattered clouds.  I’m driving back home after visiting a friend and as usual, I have my camera bag but… no tripod.  Pretty hard to photograph a sunset and make it an HDR !  Nevertheless, I find that the sky is so interesting that I cannot pass the occasion to make a photo even though it won’t be an HDR shot.  I just need to find a good subject that would complement the sunset.

At a traffic light, I decided to turn left and use a parallel street to the main boulevard I was driving on.  Near the end of this street, I noticed a construction site with some machinery parked for the night.  I stopped and grabbed my camera and studied the landscape to find best point of view that would make the shot.  By then, the sun was already down but was still glowing and splashing the clouds with a reddish color.  I framed the remaining clouds and exposed for the brightest part so I could turn the machinery into a silhouette.  And there I had it: it was digging a sunset !
