Following my portrait session in the field, I had pursued my trip and got lucky with the weather. I had finally found and abandoned building ! The discovery was in the Normétal village almost at
the end of the 111 provincial road. Like many villages in Abitibi, this one was born following the establishment of a mining operation. It slowly “died” after the closer of the mine. Many left for bigger cities nearby. Today, there are approximately 800 people still living in the village. The result is the abandoned look it gets from many stores being closed and boarded up.
Later in the same day, I took advantage of the still cloudy sky to photograph some more abandoned buildings. The surrounding dirt roads have an abundance of houses, barns and leftovers from the past ! I do not know the reasons why there are still so many abandoned 
buildings but I would suggest the hypothesis that construction bylaws aren’t that severe in rural area. It’s an advantage for us photographers who longs for these places ! That picture was made in Macamic on “rang 10 et 1” road. It was right beside of an abandoned house. I don’t know exactly what was the purpose of this construction but I did recognize the rests of an “wind compass” on top of it. The fact that it was in decaying wheat field added to the scary look !
